1. Overview

Nomad Translate ("we", "our", or "app") is designed with a "Privacy-First" and "Offline-First" architecture. Our core philosophy is simple: What happens on your device, stays on your device.

2. How We Handle Your Data (The "Opt-In" Philosophy)

Nomad Translate is designed to work completely offline. However, to provide flexibility, we differentiate between Default Mode and Optional Online Features.

Default Mode (Offline):

  • Text & Translations: Processed 100% locally on your device's CPU/GPU/NPU.
  • Camera & Microphone: If you use the camera for visual translation or the microphone for speech, the raw data (images/audio) is processed in your device's RAM and immediately discarded. It is never saved to storage or transmitted to our servers.

Optional Online Features (Future Capability):

  • We may introduce features that require cloud processing (e.g., "Cloud Enhanced Accuracy" or "Multi-User Conversation").
  • Safeguard: These features will always be disabled by default.
  • Consent: Data will only be transmitted if you explicitly enable these specific features or tap a button labeled "Search Online" / "Translate Online."

Personal Information:

We do not require you to create an account, log in, or provide your name/email to use the core features of the app.

Financial Data:

  • Subscriptions: All payments are processed securely by Google Play Billing. We never have access to your credit card information or billing address. We only receive an anonymous "token" confirming whether you have an active subscription.

3. Device Permissions Explained

We ask for permissions only when necessary for a feature. You can deny these permissions and still use the text translation features.

  • Camera (Optional): Used strictly to capture text for translation. We do not use it to take photos for your gallery or spy on you.
  • Microphone (Optional): Used strictly to listen to speech for translation. We do not record background audio.
  • Internet: Used for:
    • Downloading the AI Models (Initial Setup).
    • Verifying your Subscription status.
    • (Optional) Processing data only if you enable an Online Mode.
  • Storage: Used to store the large AI model files on your device so they can be accessed offline.

4. Third-Party Services

While our app logic is offline, we rely on the Android ecosystem which may collect metadata:

  • Google Play Services: Used for app updates and license verification.
  • Crash Reporting (Android Vitals): Anonymous crash logs may be sent to the Google Play Console to help us fix bugs. These logs do not contain your translation content.

5. User Reports (The "Safety Valve")

If you use the "Report Bad Translation" feature, the app will generate a draft email in your local email client. This email is sent only if you explicitly hit send. It may contain the specific text snippet you are reporting, which you agree to share with us for debugging purposes.
